With mobile phone and seatbelt camera locations breeding like rabbits, I decided to have the Speed and Camera Alerts web app announce when you are approaching a mobile phone and seatbelt camera zone. The warning is approximately 250m before you reach the location, so plenty of time to make sure you're doing the right thing, not touching, using or having your phone visible when not in a commercial holder, and making sure everyone has their seatbelt on correctly. Remember the majority of seatbelt fines (some 88% in NSW) are for not wearing the seatbelt correctly and just 12% for not wearing the seatbelt. After much thought I felt is was better to announce the mobile phone and seatbelt camera zones so people could become acquainted with their locations. Until more people report cameras, it was felt this approach would more consistently remind people. Permanently fixed mobile phone and seatbelt cameras will have the current announcement warning drivers of the mobile phone and seatbelt camera nearby. In Victoria, NSW, SA and the ACT, the portable mobile phone and seatbelt cameras are primarily used for mobile phone and seatbelt offences. If someone is caught and there's another possible offence such as an unregistered vehicle, the it's possible to be fined for that as well. In Western Australia there are portable mobile phone and seatbelt camera trailers and also speed camera trailers. The portable mobile phone and seatbelt cameras not only catch mobile phone and seatbelt offences, but also speeding, and when configured in pairs, point-to-point or average speeding offences. In addition other offences such as an unregistered vehicle may also occur. The announcement will be different for a speed camera trailer. In Queensland it's not always possible from reports to know the type of camera trailer. There's a number of announcements. One for a mobile phone and seatbelt camera zone, one for speed camera trailer zone, and one for camera trailer zone. The camera trailer zone announcement is for when cameras have been reported, but the report didn't include the type of camera, and also where there's a suspected camera but this hasn't been verified through a second source. Also keep in mind there may be times where cameras are being tested, or the location was incorrectly identified, but it's felt it's better to warn more than less. In terms of hearing too many announcement where there's no camera trailer currently at the location, that shouldn't be a problem as most people on a given day, may only drive past one or two camera locations, and becoming aware the location is a possible camera location may help them in the future. In the Northern Territory, to my knowledge, there are no mobile phone and seatbelt cameras, so there won't be any announcements. In Tasmania they primarily use camera trailers and the camera trailers cover all thing typical things the cameras cover. The camera trailers are moved more frequently and reports are less frequent so it's harder to identify if the camera trailers stay at the location longer. If there's a location where camera trailers are known to be positioned for an extended period of time, a camera trailer announcement will occur.
