The recent South Australia budget made a number announcements regarding cameras which are relevant to drivers on South
Australian roads. You can read the announcement using the following link.
"$17.8 million for approximately 15 new mobile speed cameras and the replacement of an anticipated 16
fixed speed & red-light cameras with newer technology." For mobile speed cameras and fixed red-light speed camera upgrades, the revenue raised ($17.1m) is expected to recover the money speed in a little over a year. For mobile phone seatbelt cameras, based on the numbers provided, once fully operational, the outlay is expected to be recovered in around a year. From the information available online, South Australia currently has 13 mobile phone detection cameras operating over five sites. In the second half of 2025 this will increase to 7 sites covering a total 17 lanes of traffic. The sites are fixed cameras. It is interesting to note the new mobile phone seatbelt cameras will be mobile rather than the current fixed camera systems.
