Speed and Camera Alerts update: 170826
The Speed and Camera Alerts update 170826 is now live. The following
is a list of the updates.
An interesting change to note is the Speed
Cameras Location site now enables people to check the maps for all
the camera locations used by the Speed and Camera Alerts web app.
The addition of the QR Code on Speed and Camera Alerts
should make it much easier to share the web app with family and friends.
Interestingly this came about during a chat with the local Jaycar staff
who were keen to use Speed and Camera Alerts, but it became obvious
I needed a better approach and quicker approach to help in sharing.
When testing the average speed camera functionality (point-to-point) cameras,
it became obvious people can and will turn off before they reach the final
camera location. An easy solution is to restart the web app but that loses the
current trip data. Now you can press anywhere on the average speed limit
information to end the average speed limit feature. There's nothing on the screen
to tell people of this feature, but I will add it into the notes, which people may
or may not read. At least you'll know this feature exists.
I'm really enjoying sharing camera alerts to my Facebook feed to help family and
friends, and to Facebook Groups to help the broader community. The change
to give credit makes me feel better that it credits the sites I use.
- Fixed issue where using speedcameralocations.com.au
instead of www.speedcameralocations.com.au could break the application.
- Added timestamp field to score report to help match against
the map.
- Changed map heading to region, country.
- Added additional call to geolocation after start button press and
to force iPhones to prompt for location access
as iPhone on first use may currently cause issues. This is not an Android issue.
- Changed heading to state, country on site pages.
- Fixed issue with NZ alerts using separate files when all reports
should go to a single NZ file.
- Fixed shareScore so only the text is shared. In some situations
a log was also being shared.
- The Speed Camera Locations site
now covers: Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Canada and the USA.
- Australia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and Scotland cover cameras,
speed limits and includes public holiday and school term data to provide
better alerts for day-of-year and time-of-day speed limits.
- Canada, USA, Wales and England now have speed limit and cameras, but not
public holidays or schools terms.
- Added a QR Code to make sharing the Speed and Camera Alerts easier.
- Added a PTP overlay so you can now click on the PTP information area to end average speed
zone coverage in instances when you turn off before the last average speed camera.
- Increased user reported alerts to 300m, 50m more than trailer alerts
so the user report alert is used instead of the zone alert for the location.
- Changed the share lastCameraReport to use reported time/date
when the alert was made and no longer the later current time/date when
the report is shared. Also added credits for OpenStreetMap
and SpeedCameraLocations for reports shared on social media.
- Fixed bug where there was the old state variable used was being used for a suspected trailer
causing an error.
