Mobile Phone/Seatbelt/Speed Cameras
New Zealand/Wellington/Auckland/Christchurch

PLEASE HELP
Please use the Speed and Camera Alerts web app to have your passenger report cameras. When you report cameras you're helping others as they're helping you. The Speed and Camera Alerts web app is a driver's aid to help drivers reduce the risk of fines, assist drivers to improve driving behaviour, thereby hopefully making the roads safer for everyone.

New Zealand currently doesn't have any fixed or trailer mounted mobile phone seatbelt cameras. New Zealand does have speed camera trailers. It is expected some time in the future, mobile phone seatbelt cameras will be deployed in New Zealand and at that time, those cameras will also be included here. The Mobile Phone Seatbelt Cameras and Speed Camera Trailers NZ map shows camera locations around NZ. Camera markers show the location of the speed camera trailers.

Click on the Enlarge Map button for a larger map, or click on the full-screen button at the top right of the map.

Camera markers on the map are speed camera trailer locations. Camera markers are colour coded to indicate if the camera is fixed, portable or a suspected location. The lens of the camera marker is white if there is no video and red if there is a video of the location available.

Notes

New Zealand

In September 2025 New Zealand started rolling out speed camera trailers starting with one in Auckland. Ten were planned nationwide and as at 16 Jan 2016, all ten have been spotted with the following number plates.

2BF20
2BF21
4AR64
4AR65
4AR66
7BL34
7BL35
7BL36
7BL37
7BL38

The speed camera trailers can capture multiple lanes and vehicles travelling in both directions. There's a larger camera/radar in the rear and a smaller camera/radar at the front under the solar panel on the top. If I'm right in understanding the radar detection devices, it appears the back radar uses the K band (24.071GHz) and the front unit uses an MRCD. So my best guess is vehicles can be captured in both directions relative to the trailer and both directions relative to the road. That is, each radar/camera at each end of the trailer can capture vehicles going in both directions.

The technology used in the speed camera trailers is the same as is used in the recent fleet of 34 SUVs that have been operating since May 2025.

Distance to camera

I have not currently seen any fine images for cameras in New Zealand. I'll provide as estimate when further information is avaiable. Typically based on images from Australia, the distance is usually under 100m, perhaps less than 80m. The procurement document for NTZA 2024 mentions a minimum standard for mobile speed cameras to cover three lanes and up to 100m.

A search of the Carjam site returns the trailers as a Pinto Utility Domestic Trailer. It is suspected Acusensus is the supplier of SUV cameras and the same cameras may be used in the speed camera trailers. Acusensus is the same supplier that reportedly provides mobile phone/seatbelt/speed camera trailers to Western Australia.
