A suspected location is where there are multiple police/camera reports over a number of consecutive days, indicating a stationary camera. Unknown camera type trailer means a camera trailer has been reported at the location but there was insufficient details of the camera type.

Mobile phone/seatbelt/speed camera trailers can also be used in pairs as point-to-point average speed cameras.

  • Detect mobile phone use, which includes if the mobile phone is touching or resting on any part of the body.
  • Seatbelt not being worn, or worn incorrectly.
  • Speeding.
  • Speeding over a distance, also know as Average or Point-to-Point speed cameras.

Notes

Distance to camera

Based on images for the M5 mobile phone seatbelt camera, it is estimated the distance from the camera to the vehicle is around 20m. For a portable mobile phone seatbelt camera on a trailer the distance is estimated to be around 10 metres.

Speed Camera Trailers

Western Australia has two or three portable camera trailers. These speed cameras are known as "e;ALICE"e; (Autonomous Lidar Concept for Enforcement) and are positioned at a location for a number of days. The trailer is armour plated and battery powered, made by the German company Vitronic. The price in 2018 was stated at starting around $157,000. An alarm will sound if anyone tries to tamper with the unit. The camera inside is one of the usual Vitronic Poliscan models used from it's mobile camera fleet so no trial is required before the unit becomes operational. When the wheels are retracted the trailer is lowered to the ground. The unit weighs 1,250kg.

Registration plates of trailers

In Western Australia mobile phone seatbelt camera trailers display registration plates. The following plates have so far been seen. This would appear to be a good indication of the number of trailers.
